Dr. Anne explains how a deep laser resurfacing will smooth away lines and wrinkles and tighten the face without surgery — no incisions, no stitches.
What is deep laser resurfacing?
Lasers work by removing the outer layer of skin and promoting collagen formation in the dermis, or deeper layer of the skin. The deeper the laser treatment goes into the skin, the more effective at treating skin irregularities. The overall effect is a tightening of the skin, with a smoothening out of fine wrinkles and more even texture and color.
Is laser skin resurfacing a good alternative to a face lift?
Laser skin resurfacing does provide a general ‘lift’ to the face, but a face lift is necessary to reverse advanced sagging of the skin of the face. Wrinkles on the lips and around the eyes usually do not respond to face lifting but respond well to laser resurfacing.
Who is a good candidate for this procedure?
Anyone who wants to treat:
- Moderate to deep wrinkles
- Liver spots or age spots
- Uneven skin tones
- Sun damaged skin
- Acne scars, surgical scars
How long is the recovery period?
Usually it takes two weeks to heal completely, with a range from one to four weeks depending on area and depth of treatment.
